CINEMARCHITECTURAL EMOTION

INTRODUCTION

Emotion is a complex psychophysiological changing which is inside of person’s individual mood with biochemical (internal) and environmental effects. People live with someone (heart) inside of them, and it manages their movement, thinking, orientation, success and failure. Sense is an inherent power which realize that sense of perception. It is an ability to reveal the difference between sensory events, and the object of various external senses. People’s sensitivity creates a scales which is in balanced between their feelings and their doings, if it is equal, they feel better, and live comfortably, if it is off-balanced, they feel worse, and life will be harder to them generally. Thus, in society, people touch their feelings implicitly, and films, theatre’s games, stand-ups are nourished from this, and show to us these emotions, and people feel the almost same feelings when they see the scenes which performer feels some emotions which people think. So, the world which people give a shape directly, improves and changes with emotions. It means that architecture has an emotion like a cinema.

1.SECTION

Firstly, cinematic emotion means that feelings which is inside of the scene, should be perceivable for audience. Scenarist should touch a heart of viewers with scenario thanks to actor and actress abilities. The most important way for understand a film’s success people’s feelings that with an example; you made a movie, and its topic is blues, but, people who watched a movie, but no one did not cry, sorry, but you would be fail, if they came outside tearily, you would be successful, because you would reflect your feeling to audience. In cinema, emotion is the most important thing, because every scene feels something to viewers, if you do not think about the scenes. Even, actors and actresses who are famous will influence your movie. For instance, you choose Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa in your Aquaman movie, people will have two ideas before the everything, first idea is that this man is brunette, but Aquaman is blonde, second idea is that this man is a good actor. This situation causes to feelings (concern, thrill) without your movie. If I should give another example, in Pianist movie’s posters give to audience emotions (concern, sadness), because you feel as man or woman who is between of the ruinous buildings, and people again feel these emotions without watching a movie.

Secondly, the Pianist poster (Figure 1) gives an emotion which is a sadness, with architectural way. This film goes during the Second World War, so buildings were taken damage, and it feels worse, because no one want to be inside of the war. Architecture has an emotion which can be felt with an eye. Once upon a time in Turkey, new brides want to live a house which have pink shutters, because, shutter represent a safeguarded, pink represent a love, happiness, so, house with pink shutters means that it is a sheltered happiness hearth and home. As time progressed, people give a meaning to buildings, some of them are individual, some of them are communal. For instance, your got married and you bought your first home, and 2 years later, you move to somewhere else. You saw your first home after 2 years, you feel some special, individual emotions, because it may represent a difficult time, new beginning. It is related with your experience and your house. Another example is about Anıtkabir, Anıtkabir gives feelings (blues, missing, pride, respect, love, and powerful) to Turkish people, and gives feelings (angry, sadness, inferiority, coward, unsuccessful, jealous) to people who unloving to Turkish.

Architectural emotion is fed from people experience or, architect’s creativity. For an example of architect’s creativity is a The Piano House (2007, China), without any prejudice, it is obvious that this building show to us what it is related, but, in emotional way, this building does not give a feeling like smooth voice of piano or, violin. Or you do not feel of realistic esthetical tissue, sensibility, and sensitivity of piano or, violin. In this case, clearness of idea cause to block for feelings for communal. It looks like comes from space as a matter of fact, it should look like comprise of earth very naturally. If it would be smoother and natural, it may give a feeling.

  1. SECTION

Cinema and architecture give a feeling to people directly. However, cinema can do that with performers skills, and sounds, touchable scenes (when you see a rolling baby panda, you are laughing, or when you saw that one guy felt from somewhere and his leg broke off, your muscles would strain and your eyes close.), architecture can do that with people experiences, architect creativity, size of building, spaces, shapes, in short, with appearance of building. Cinema is an interactive way to feel, but, architectural emotions can come to us from only our door frames. For this reason, you feel an emotion within minutes in films directly, but in architecture, your perspective had to be deep, to access a clear feeling, and your knowledges should be wide, because sometimes, you may miss some part of touching of architect. Emotion and sensuality give new meaning to scenes in cinema, and it provides connection between audience, and film crew with silver screen, it is important because sometimes, people want to cry, laugh, get angry, or throw their feeling which they do not want to come to exist to from other people For instance, you are vexed with someone, you watch fight scene of Sherlock Holmes, and you imagine yourself as a Sherlock and you kick a guy, after that you feel calmness. For this reason, emotion and sensuality should be realistic in cinema. However, architecture gain meaning as Anıtkabir, the Statue of Liberty, Pantheon, Colosseum, Berlin Wall, Kaaba. These buildings take their meanings from people and people’s feelings change person to person, without any historical or present meaning, building can be felt feelings, Pantheon architectural design may be felt special with aware of time without clock, Colosseum may be felt thrill, fear without any lions, or gladiators inside of it. Lastly, cinema and architecture have own meanings, emotion both individual and communal. In individual way, cinema works interactively, architecture works with experience. In communal way, cinema works inherently, because people want to hide their feelings generally, architecture works external, because people want to share their ideas or, feelings about buildings mostly.

CONCLUSION

As a conclusion, cinema and architecture are way of the showing and seeing feeling, and feeling which is the comes from them is important. Because, meaning of them is totally related with it. Film crew should be recognized about feeling’s importance, because movies touch to people heart, they are responsible for all good or bad influences. People should spend quality time while they are watching their movie, for this, cinematic emotion is the most important thing. In architecture, architect should be aware of that people will give a meaning their buildings, and s/he should design with this conscious. You may build a house for newly-wed couple, new-born baby, or your hospital may be last place for some visitors, or your schools may be turning point for some students, or your museums, factories may have workers during to 7 day 24 hours, and for sure, you will some feedbacks from them emotionally, in good ways, or bad ways. To sum up, emotion and sensuality are inside of everything, but cinema and architecture two of the important of them. Because cinema is the most interactive way, architecture is the innermost of people life. Thus, film crews, and architects should be aware of them for giving good life standards to people.
